BICYCLING MAGAZINE SAVED BY THE BIKE

Cover Story for Bicycling Magazine January/February 2015 issue.

For the January/February 2015 Issue with the theme New Year, New You, I wrote the cover story, "Saved By The Bike." The story featured 5 riders and how cycling saved, transformed and changed their lives for the better.

The story was selected as the Editor's Pick for the issue.

Read the story here.

Manual For Speed Contributor

On occasion the guys at Manual For Speed, an intimate and insightful look at pro-cycling, asks me to do some writing for them.

Here's some pieces I've contributed to.

"American Crit Housing Vol. 3"

Seven Reasons Why Women's Cycling Matters

I've also co-written two MFS Manuals with them. One on "Nutrition" and the other on "Hydration and Recovery."

"WHAT IS IN THE BACK POCKET OF THE TOUR DE FRANCE"
Tour de France Nutrition

I wrote an indepth article that looked at cycling nutrition, specifically in the pro peloton during the world's most gruelling race, The Tour de France. The article was featured in the print and online edition of Thrive Magazine.

Chalet Magazine Ask Becca

I wrote two feature pieces for Chalet Magazine that were released on the eve of the infamous Red Hook Crit in Brooklyn, NY in 2016.

The articles served as an Ask Becca column, and took a behind-the-scenes look at one of America's fastest growing underground sports. You can read them here or here.

ARTICLE 1 EXCERPT:
What happened to all the bike messengers who used to race Red Hook?
I think they may still be getting over their hangovers from the pre-party the night before. Or perhaps now they’re just further down on the result list. You’ll find Chas in there. He’s a courier out of San Francisco. But as for the New Yorkers, and the guys who were at the original Red Hook Crit, I think they’ve been run out of town by corporate sponsors and ex-pro’s who are looking to relive their former glory. But honestly, when Dave Trimble started RHC the messengers were against it. He did it all to one, make a birthday race and two, remove the ambiguity of winning an alley cat from track-bike street-racing.....Read More

ARTICLE 2 EXCERPT:
I registered for the women’s race at Red Hook Crit, but now I’m afraid of crashing, what should I do?

Hmm. Well I guess I have to ask: Before this question came to you, did you have a fear of showering because one time you slipped and fell, and while trying to stand back up, slipped again, and in an attempt to regain your balance reached for the nearest object, which happened to be a plugged in hairdryer, which you accidentally powered on, and proceeded to drop into the wet shower, and in a series of events straight out of the movie “Final Destination” ended up electrocuting yourself, but not dying, and now death has been chasing you around, and you have a fear of almost every basic life event, especially, but not confined to crossing at an intersection when the hand is blinking, eating yogurt for lunch that you forgot to put in the fridge when you arrived at work and hence has been sitting out for 2.5 hours, and every 13th day of the month? And now, faced with the idea of Red Hook Crit, do you believe this is where death will finally be victorious?...Read More

FACES OF PAIN

For The Feed, I created, wrote and designed a series of "Zines" featuring great adventures, athletes, and behind-the-scenes looks at the world of professional athletes and their routines, nutrition and training.

"FACES OF PAIN - WHAT A BIKE RACE REALLY LOOKS LIKE" was distributed at The Amgen Tour of California by TheFeed.com in collaboration with Garmin-Sharp in 2014.

This story features the Garmin Sharp Professional Cycling team, and teaches about the mental fortitude that goes on in the peloton. It also speaks about the role nutrition, rest and recovery play in such a brutal sport.

You can view a pdf of the zine here

The Feed Issue 01

The Feed - Issue 01
I was part of the team that originally launched The Feed.com, a sports nutrition delivery service. I was brought on to provide all copy needs for the company. This included writing and managing all the social channels, all website copy, product copy, and blog content.  I researched, wrote and managed every post in 2013 to 2015.

I was also in charge of writing, designing and creating materials to include in monthly orders. For a subscribers first month we created this newspaper insert.

MFS Chabanov's Guide

In collaboration with Manual For Speed I created a Guide to Nutrition featuring cyclist Dan Chabanov.

My role in this project was to advise and educate, write on behalf of TheFeed.com and final layout of the print booklet.
